Flood Risk Reduction

Yuba Water Agency stands as a beacon of resilience and proactive flood risk reduction measures, dedicated to safeguarding the communities of Yuba County from the threat of catastrophic flooding. Central to our efforts is the meticulous management of New Bullards Bar Dam, the fifth tallest dam in the United States, along with several smaller diversion dams. Through rigorous dam safety protocols and maintenance practices, Yuba Water ensures that these critical structures remain in optimal condition, minimizing the risk of potential hazards.

Since our inception in 1959, Yuba Water has been at the forefront of local flood management initiatives, collaborating closely with state and federal agencies, Congress, and other stakeholders to enhance public safety and mitigate flood risks in Yuba County. Working hand in hand with local levee districts, responsible for reclaiming and maintaining flood-threatened land, we strive to protect agricultural, residential, commercial, and industrial areas from the devastating impacts of flooding. With a portfolio of strategic projects and partnerships geared towards reducing flood risk, Yuba Water Agency remains steadfast in its commitment to preparedness and resilience, equipping communities with the resources and knowledge necessary to weather potential disasters. As we reflect on the 25th anniversary of the New Year's flood of 1997, we stand poised to build upon the lessons learned and ensure that Yuba County remains among the best-protected flood-prone regions in the state.
