Greetings MJUSD Parents and Guardians:
Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year! We are thrilled to open our doors on August 9 and welcome our students back.
Throughout the summer, a dedicated maintenance crew has been hard at work preparing our schools, and teachers and support staff have invested many hours in training to enhance teaching and learning practices. On behalf of the Trustees and the Executive Cabinet, I extend a warm welcome to our new students and families. We are excited to see our school district growing, with an increase in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students in our elementary schools.
Our primary focus this year is student success, and we have identified three key areas that require our attention:
1. Wellness: The well-being of both students and staff is directly linked to academic and social-personal success. This year, each school will have a wellness center to support students during the day. Additionally, in collaboration with the County, we will be opening three more Wellness Community Hubs, similar to the one at Lindhurst. Please reach out to your site administrator or email Bryan Williams, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services at, bwilliams@mjusd.k12.ca.us with any questions or concerns.
2. Communication: We are very proactive with our newsletters and 1:1 meetings. I encourage you to stay informed about district happenings by attending my monthly Let's Connect Zoom meetings, 1:1 site meetings and other community gatherings. You can also stay informed by watching 93Q Radio Facebook posts, reading the monthly school and district newsletters, following the MJUSD and school Facebook pages, and attending site meetings. There are numerous resources and opportunities to stay involved and informed so that you can be the best advocate for your child.
3. Celebrations: We have so many ways to celebrate our students and we thank our staff for their unwavering commitment to fostering an engaging educational environment. We offer a wide array of course options like high school Honors, AP, CTE, and college-level offerings. Additionally, AVID has made a return to both middle and high schools, while Honors programs have been reintroduced in middle schools. Furthermore, elementary schools have seen the reinstatement of the GATE program. Along side these academic initiatives, various clubs such as Mock Trial, Academic Decathlon, and ESports are available. Please contact your school to learn more.
On a personal note, I request that we work collaboratively to improve the school environment. As we move forward into this year, it is imperative that we prioritize fostering a positive atmosphere through our words and actions. Whether we are students or adults, we must take responsibility for creating a positive school culture.
Finally, thank you, parents and guardians, for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your most valuable treasures, your children. This year's theme is Don't Stop Believing… in our schools our students and our staff. Please watch this back to school video to start off this school year.
Wishing each of you a safe and successful 2023-2024 school year.
Sincerely,
Fal Asrani, Ed.D
