Antidepressants

Antidepressants are a class of medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. They work by balancing chemicals in the brain, such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, which are thought to influence mood and emotional well-being. There are several types of antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Each type works differently, but they all aim to alleviate the symptoms of depression and anxiety, improving overall functioning. While they can be highly effective, antidepressants may take several weeks to show results and can have side effects such as nausea, weight gain, or sexual dysfunction.
